NAVI win PGL Major Stockholm over G2; make history by going undefeated

The CIS powerhouse didn't drop a single map en route to their first Major trophy.

22:50 - s1mple: "I told myself that I would stay in NAVI and win a Major with them, I promised myself, and we did it. A lot of people didn't believe and made some jokes, but we fucking did it, the Major is ours."

The Ukrainian superstar earned his seventeenth MVP medal and first at a Major, ending the event with a 1.47 rating.

22:41 AND IT'S ALL OVER! NAVI are the champions of PGL Major Stockholm after coming back from a 10-15 deficit, becoming the first team to win a CS:GO Major without dropping a single map

An absolutely thrilling end to the series as Natus Vincere come out on top in double overtime, securing a 22-19 victory after recovering from 7-14 and 10-15 deficits. Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev at long last has his crown.

22:33 - NiKo denies NAVI the win by gunning down three to force second OT (NAVI 18-18 G2)

22:26 It's starting to slip away for G2 as NAVI take the lead in overtime (NAVI 17-16 G2)

Heartbreak is on the horizon for G2 as NAVI stand just two rounds away from a Major trophy.

22:16 - We head to overtime after NAVI win five in a row (NAVI 15-15 G2)

Nikola "NiKo" Kovač's misses may very well come back to haunt him as NAVI have forced overtime, rallying back from a 10-15 deficit. It couldn't be heartbreak in overtime again for the Bosnian star, surely?

22:13 "Mirage was one click away!" (NAVI 13-15 G2)

"An absolute disaster!" Alex "Machine" Richardson exclaims as NiKo misses Deagle shots on a player not looking at him in a 2vs2 situation that all but guaranteed a map win.

22:06 - G2 look to crush NAVI's comeback hopes (NAVI 10-15 G2)

NAVI are up to double digits with three in a row, but their lobby aggression in round 25 didn't pay off as G2 claimed match point.

21:55 - Kovač cousins combine to recover 3vs5, G2 regain control (NAVI 7-13 G2)

21:52 - NAVI score force-buy win after falling in second half pistol (NAVI 7-11 G2)

Natus Vincere stopped G2 from running away with the map after rallying with a round 17 force-buy, which was followed by an ace spraydown from s1mple.

21:45 - JaCkz shines in G2's CT side effort (NAVI 5-10 G2)

The 29-year-old found a number of pivotal multi-kill rounds to help G2 establish a strong lead at the end of their CT side effort.

21:40 - electronic cracks through G2's defenses with four frags, JaCkz answers back for G2 (NAVI 5-7 G2)

21:31 - NAVI's early attempt to fight back is denied by G2 (NAVI 3-5 G2)

Natus Vincere briefly took the lead with a streak of three rounds, during which G2 almost upset with a pistol win that was flubbed on the last kill after Audric "JACKZ" Jug accidentally dropped off of hut roof in a 1vs1. But G2 are right back in it and are pulling ahead on the defense, with NiKo off to a strong start (9-3 K-D).

21:21 - G2 strike first on Nuke (NAVI 0-2 G2)

21:15 - NAVI look to extend undefeated streak on Nuke to 18

Not only do Natus Vincere sit just one map away from a Major title, but they are in position to take it in historic fashion as they haven't dropped a single map in their Major campaign, something which looks entirely unlikely to change as the CIS side have won their last seventeen outings on Nuke — the battleground for the second map of the series.

21:03 - s1mple dominates as NAVI steal G2's Ancient pick (NAVI 16-11 G2)

Despite getting off to a decent start, the curveball pick of Ancient didn't pay off for G2 as they were unable to halt s1mple the Undertaker, who ended the map with a 32-17 K-D.

20:50 - B1T denies G2 the opportunity to regain control with a 1vs2 clutch as NAVI edge closer to match point (NAVI 14-10 G2)

20:42 - G2 briefly take the lead, but NAVI are hot on their heels to tie the score (NAVI 10-10 G2)

A pistol win and subsequent conversions allowed G2 to take the lead, with JACKZ denying Ilya "Perfecto" Zalutskiy a 1vs2 clutch to help G2 claim double digits. NAVI weren't far behind though, and things are all tied up at 10-10.

20:33 - NAVI pull ahead at the break on Ancient (NAVI 8-7 G2)

s1mple ended the first half of the match with a 20-9 K-D, leading the server in opening duels (3:1).

20:29 - s1mple finds four on the B defense to grab his 17th kill (NAVI 6-7 G2)

20:26 - G2 take the lead after brief back-and-forth brawl (NAVI 5-7 G2)

20:15 - NAVI recover from 2vs4 loss with eco victory (NAVI 4-2 G2)

NAVI fell flat in an A retake to Nemanja "nexa" Isaković and François "amanek" Delaunay, who combined to grant G2 their second, but a double kill from s1mple on the AWP and pistols from the remaining members of the team in the next round was enough to answer back as NAVI held on to their lead.

20:10 - G2 find their first after strong start from NAVI (NAVI 3-1 G2)

19:55 - s1mple, NiKo comment on playing Major grand final ahead of match

Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev: "Before, on the last two Majors, we had no chance against prime Astralis and SK. Right now we are favorites and we just want to stay calm and show our best game."

Nikola "NiKo" Kovač: "I want to enjoy every moment that I spend on this stage, that's all that matters for me. I want to give it my all, I'm not thinking about anything that happened in the past during this tournament. We didn't have this for almost two years, so just being here is very special, I want to enjoy it until the end."

19:21 - G2 surprise with an Ancient pick to kick off the veto!

1. G2 removed Overpass
2. Natus Vincere removed Vertigo
3. G2 picked Ancient
4. Natus Vincere picked Nuke
5. Natus Vincere removed Inferno
6. G2 removed Dust2
7. Mirage was left over

Counter-Strike will crown a new Major champion for the first time in over two years later today as G2 and Natus Vincere will face off in the best-of-three title decider of PGL Major Stockholm at 20:00 , a rematch of the IEM Cologne grand final in July where NAVI had come out victorious after sweeping the best-of-five series. We'll be covering the match in its entirety through this live post, where you can find updates of key moments from the match as it plays out.

A flawless run

Natus Vincere were by far the favorites to take the tournament title from the start of the event, having demonstrated stellar form in the months prior by winning IEM Cologne and ESL Pro League Season 14. That expectation only became more realized as Valeriy "b1t" Vakhovskiy entered the Stockholm group stage in powerful form, ending the top sixteen stage as the best-performing player of the entire event with a 1.44 rating.

s1mple and NiKo will be gunning for their first Major titles

s1mple was not far behind, and has only stepped up since tournament play reached the stage, being the pivotal player in NAVI's semi-final victory over Gambit. G2, meanwhile, have shown poise, recovering from a last place elimination in ESL Pro League in August as they also maintain an unbeaten record in the tournament, having only dropped one map to HEROIC en route to the final.

s1mple and NiKo in a duel of fates

G2's run has been headlined by the incredible showing of NiKo, who has been playing in peak form throughout his team's tournament bid, being the key factor in wins over Ninjas in Pyjamas and HEROIC. For NAVI, it hasn't just been a one-man show as b1t and Denis "electroNic" Sharipov have also stepped up, but s1mple is back in hot form ahead of the final match of the event, recording his highest-ever rating at a Major in NAVI's dominant semi-final against Gambit (1.87 series rating).
